Believe it or not, ski wax is nasty stuff. Traditional waxes contain perflurocarbons (PFCs) and petroleum. PFCs are extremely potent greenhouse gases with a lifetime of up to 50,000 years.
Derivatives of PFCs have been linked to cancers, liver damage and other bad things. When used on skis, these chemical residues get left on the mountain and eventually find their way into the water table.
