Atomic Skis
What’s New
Double Deck was introduced last year in limited versions but has been tweaked and applied to a wider range of models for the coming season. Expert skiers will be treated to two powerful models in the Race range but Double Deck will also be found on one women’s model as well as a full range of frontside cruisers and carvers.

RACE
These are about as close to World Cup models as most skiers want to get. For the average human being the performance is breathtaking but they are amazingly skiable. The Double Deck versions of SL and GS are full wood core with double layers of Titanium. The power and precision can be felt, and the harder the snow the better.

D2 Race GS
70mm underfoot, 19 meter sidecut radius in 184 cm length
Tip to tail wood core, 2 layers of Titanium. Fasten your seatbelt.

Race Ti GS
72mm underfoot, 16.9 meter sidecut radius in 182 cm length.
Full wood core and two layers of Titanium.
More shape, almost an all-mountain shape with race construction.

D2 Race SL
67 mm underfoot, 11.5 meters sidecut radius in 165 cm length.
Same construction as D2 GS but narrower with much more shape. Nimble and powerful, experts will love it.

Race Ti SL
70 mm underfoot, 11.5 meters sidecut radius in 165 cm length
Tip to tail wood core and double layer of Titanium. Serious performance but slightly wider and probably a bit more versatile than the thoroughbred D2 version.

Race LT
74mm underfoot, 16 meter sidecut radius in 174 cm length.
Densolite core in the GS family.

Race ST
72mm underfoot, 11 meter sidecut radius in 163 cm length.
Densolite core with SL shape. Densolite should not be confused with the cheaper injected foam cores on some entry level skis. Densolite is an acrylic plastic that is milled just like wood to make the core. It provides excellent bonding, lightness and consistency in construction.

DRIVE
Drive is a category introduced last year to define a collection of frontside boards to satisfy skiers from intermediate to expert abilities. This year it includes a full range of Double Deck skis as well. It should be noted that this full range may not be available in all countries. For example Canada will not import “Select” versions except the VF 75 Select. “Select” versions are alternate cosmetics for certain models.

Technology you should know about
Double Deck is best described as two skis in one. The lower deck is relatively soft. It provides constant contact with the snow and absorbs vibration. The upper deck distributes pressure and energy from the skier to the lower deck. The two decks are attached mechanically allowing both to flex unimpeded. Skis with two simple decks are called Vario Flex and are named with the D2 VF prefix. Vario Flex has been tested on the World Cup circuit to make sure it’s ready for rippin’ Joe public.
A variation called Vario Cut is less simple. In this version the lower deck is split a good distance down at tip and tail with only a flexible plastic insert spanning the considerable gap. As the ski flexes, the split widens effectively increasing the sidecut or hourglass shape of the ski. By simply bending the ski, the sidecut radius can change by as much as 6 meters. That’s about the difference between a slalom and a GS ski. The result is a ski that changes its shape on the fly. Atomic says it makes it possible to carve a perfect arc no matter what the radius. We tested VC several times in a number of conditions over the winter and found the technology to be seamless. The skis were friendly and very easy to ride with no hint of the technology going on underfoot. Vario Cut is only available on a few models this year — the more common version is Vario Flex.

ALL-MOUNTAIN NOMAD
Next generation Nomad construction takes this collection of all-mountain boards up a notch. Torsion Flex control is a system of varying sections along the length of the ski that stabilize where torsional rigidity is required and soften the ski where flexibility is required. Atomic says that despite the wide contact surface, this makes the ski light, flexible and dynamic – in powder as well as groomed slopes.

Smoke
76mm underfoot, 76 mm underfoot, 17 meter sidecut radius in 178 cm length.

WOMEN’S SKIS
Atomic’s collection of skis for women have specific engineering to address the unique weight distribution and physical strength of the female body. The most noticeable is the Women’s Flex Zone, a flex profile where tip and tail are gradually softened and the flex strength from tip to tail is specially modified. The expert level Raisin’ Hell has been replaced with a new Double Deck model. This collection features cap construction and densolite cores for lightness and consistency.

D2 VF 75 W
75mm underfoot, 13 meter sidecut radius in 166 cm length.
This is the only woman’s ski using the new Double Deck construction. It has an all-mountain shape.

Heaven’s Gate
74mm underfoot, 12.5 meter sidecut radius in 164 cm length.
Aimed at athletic women. Light and agile.

Seventh Heaven 79

A light powder ski.

Elysian
92 mm underfoot. Full wood core, new this year. Available in 152, 160, 168, 176 cm.

She Devil

FREERIDE BIG MOUNTAIN
The Daddys are gone, replaced with a series of big boards with new construction to improve impact resistance and durability. No more densolite cores, tip to tail wood is the new standard.

Atlas
115 mm waist in 182cm model, 125mm in 192cm length.
These are big skis for the deep and steep but a Power Rocker aims to make them manageable for the ride back to the lifts. Power Rocker is rocker in the tip only to enhance float and handling. Regular camber for the rest of the ski creates powerful finishes to turns and stable landings on large drops, according to Atomic.

Coax
105mm underfoot. Available in 174, 183, 192.

Snoop
92 - 95mm underfoot depending on length. Available in 168, 176, 184, 192.

Bent Chetler
123mm underfoot, 19 meter sidecut radius. Pop Rocker 20.
This new ski is the pro model of Chris Benchetler. It features Atomic’s Pop Rocker design meaning early rise in tip and tail but traditional camber underfoot. Rocker on both ends means switch skiing in powder is possible but the regular camber enables skiing on harder snow. Bent Chetler has a Pop Rocker 20 meaning the rocker shape extends 20cm down from either end of the ski.

Blog
110mm underfoot, 19 meter sidecut in 185 cm length. Pop Rocker 10.

PARK
This collection is basically unchanged except for the addition of Patent, a wider twintip for the park.

Patent also features the step down sidewall for more durability and impact resistance.

Punx

Twins
81mm underfoot. Available in 155, 164, 173.
Twins is meant to provide a bit more versatility to make a park ski that feels good all over the mountain.

Deviant
80 mm underfoot. Available in 153, 164, 175cm.
This is an entry level twin for park and mountain. It features cap construction over a non-wood core.
