| DPS SKIS
DPS founder Stephan Drake says he introduced the term “Rocker” to the world’s skiing vocabulary in 2002. If so he is a prophet because Rocker is the way of the future for off-piste skis and maybe frontside skis too. DPS also has a patent pending on the first rockered, sidecut ski. Recently DPS moved into headquarters in Salt Lake City and moved from being an internet-only distributor to high-end retail plus internet.
A lot of emphasis is placed on construction with advanced materials in what it calls Carbon-Nano construction. A recent patent addition is vertical Titanal ribs that gives the feel of a metal laminate ski without sacrificing the strength-to-weight of DPS skis. It claims this construction delivers lightness, power and a silky feel unrivaled by any other construction. Wood or bamboo is used in cores depending on the mission of the ski.
There are two types of construction:
Pure – a sandwich construction using pure prepreg carbon and nanotech laminates. DPS says Pure creates the most advanced and highest performing skis on earth. Pure skis are 30% lighter than conventional skis yet 30% stiffer and stronger. DPS claims that this construction maintains its life for years of skiing unlike conventional skis that break down over the season.
Hybrid – more conventional construction using fiberglass, bamboo cores and full length carbon stringers top and bottom.
