GOODE Skis ... Carbon Innovation
Dave Goode (pronounced good), President and founder, started Goode Ski Technologies in 1975 at the age of 19. Today Goode is a worldwide leader and builds more carbon composite ski poles than all other companies combined. Goode water skis dominate water ski tournaments around the world. The first product was ski poles followed by water skis and finally snow skis. The skis are unique in a number of ways:
- 100% carbon fiber construction including the core. Only the edges are made of metal.
- Goode skis are 50% lighter than wood core counterparts
- Goode skis have over 4 times the strength-to-weight ratio of conventional skis
- Goode skis have about twice the torsional rigidity of conventional skis.
It sounds like the answer we’ve all been waiting for but if pure carbon fiber skis are so good, why aren’t they all made that way? Goode offers these possible reasons:
- Possible lack of innovation within the ski industry.
- Higher cost of materials (Carbon typically costs 30 times that of fiberglass)
- Long press times (3 hours for Carbon vs. 12 minutes for conventional fiberglass)
- Difficult to design and engineer.
