BOOTS

The boot offering from Head indicates the same attention to function that skis enjoy. An example is the i-Type collection that incorporates a flex walking sole that locks into a rigid element in the binding so no performance is lost for skiing. The cuff also unlocks automatically for easy walking but returns to a locked position just by stepping into the binding.

This season Adaptive Fit technology will be introduced in some models. It’s a deceptively simple idea which changes the boot from 102mm to 104mm with the turn of a screw. It’s basically two models in one.

RAPTOR – Race

Raptor holds top spot on the performance scale and although they are not for everyone, they should be on the short list for any skier that wants the best performance/race boot on the front of the mountain. Some important changes to the liner this year will improve fit and function in the latest offerings. Boots in this category are typically low volume and often need custom fitting but that’s all part of maximizing performance. It defeats the purpose to buy a high performance boot and then go up a size so it’s more comfortable.

Spineflex buckles provide constant closure points for smooth foot-wrapping and a simple but ingenious double Power Strap uses mechanical advantage to allow the elastic cuff strap to be closed tightly and easily.

The RS series have a softer shell than the RD boots as well as a softer and thinner liner. Last widths are given as the wide part in the forefoot roughly equivalent to the measurement across the metatarsals. For most people 95mm is tight. Innerboots are high quality with a lacing option in the top models and maybe that’s why Head says Raptor is even more comfortable this year.

Raptor B2 RD
Sizes 22.5 – 28.5
Flex 140/150/160 (all stiff), 95mm forefoot width
With high performance features such as lacing liner, race footbed and FIS-approved sole thickness, these boots are clearly made for racing enthusiasts.
Raptor B3 RD
Sizes 22.5 – 28.5
Flex 120/130/140, 95mm forefoot width
Similar features to B2 but softer flex rating.
Raptor 130 RS
Sizes 22.0 – 30.5 with some gaps
Flex 120/130/140, 98mm forefoot width
Raptor 115 RS

Flex 115/105, 98mm forefoot width

VECTOR – All Mountain Performance

Vector combines a special multi-injected shell, heat-ready liners and Spineflex buckles in all models this year. All lasts are 103mm in width which sounds roomy but new injection technology has allowed such precise tailoring of the shell that Head claims that this is a benchmark line that literally spans the high-performance and comfort segments in one boot.

PROJECT – Freeskiing

These models are designed specifically for the needs of freeskiers. Freeskiers need performance but their boots and bodies take a beating on hard landings so typical freeski boots incorporate shock-absorbing materials in the heel and tongue.

AdaptEdge — All Mountain Comfort

Head continues to tweak the successful Edge line that is known for blending performance with comfort. The new Adaptive Fit technology makes them even more foot-friendly. Changing shell width from 102mm to 104mm literally takes a few seconds. This series is slightly softer with higher foot volume but still uses the triple injected energy frame shell.

i-TYPE – All Day Comfort Boots

All Day Comfort may be a new category that Head has invented. By combining fleece-lined innerboots (106mm wide last) with the FlexWalking Sole and the AutoSkiWalk feature you have a boot that is easy to take on and off, easy to walk in but also fully functional on the hill for intermediate to advanced skiers. Head calls i-Type the most travel-friendly ski boot on the market.

WOMEN’S BOOTS

Head’s Dream collection of women’s boots is almost unique in that the lower shell is specifically lasted for women’s feet only. Many boot brands use a generic lower shell mold and only modify the upper cuff for women’s legs. The women’s collection combines all the latest technologies of AdaptEdge, Vector and i-Type to complete the series. All liners are prepared for a heating system.
