Aftershock was in our long-term test fleet so we had about 50 days on this over-achieving all mountain ski. The biggest surprise was that although it looks like a big ski, Aftershock is amazingly easy to turn and feels quick and light underfoot.
The All Mountain Rocker has to be a big part of this counter-intuitive feedback. And despite the 19 meter sidecut on our test pair, this board arced like a GS ski on the groomers.
K2 ranks Aftershock as a 30% groomed snow ski but we found it totally manageable everywhere, even on very hard conditions. K2 has shown how rocker design can add a new dimension to skiability which may take a while for consumers to fully adjust to. It’s now possible to enjoy the benefits of a big ski with no downside.
The Bottom Line: the catalogue says, “Don’t let the 86mm waist fool you. Aftershock is still lively and agile on the groomers.” Exactly. Aftershock takes versatility to a whole new level. |
