The Nordica boot lineup is extensive but there has been careful segmentation of market needs to be sure there is a perfect boot for every kind of skier.
A New Flex Rating System
Flex ratings are used by every boot brand to signify how stiff each boot is but the flex ratings are not standardized which means a 100 flex Nordica may be softer or stiffer than a 100 flex Atomic. Nordica has taken the brave step of beginning to define boot parameters according to a new format called Dynamic Performance Code. The 3 key parameters are Stiffness, Progression and Rebound. Each parameter receives a value to help consumers judge relative stiffness, how the stiffness increases with flexion and how readily the boot springs back to neutral. Time will tell if this new concept is adopted by other brands and if it really is more useful. Not all series are rated this way this season.
Stiffness is a number between 1 and about 20. Higher number = stiffer flex.
Progression is a number between 1 and 3. 1 = no increase in stiffness, 3 = large increase.
Rebound is how quickly the boot returns to neutral. M = slow, H = medium, E = quickest

Note: Last size (forefoot width) is given in mm. It means the inside width of the boot at the forefoot, about where the metatarsals are. Performance boots tend to be narrow (eg. 95mm) and less precise recreational boots are usually wider (over 100mm).

Race
EDT refers to Efficient Dynamic Technology, an idea that was introduced two years ago. The goal of EDT is to reduce energy loss resulting from distortion of the lower shell in advanced skiing. Nordica’s solution is a boot board made of extruded aluminum that is bolted through the shell with four threaded studs. According to Nordica the EDT boot board delivers an increase of 40% in boot torsional stiffness, 6% more lateral stiffness and a whopping 15% increase in biomechanical efficiency.
