Race skis mimic World Cup products in construction and other details but are rarely the same boards seen on the stars. Real race skis evolve during the season whereas the race skis for sale are usually fixed for the season.

FRONT RACE
This sub-set of the race category features a multi-radius sidecut that allows easier transitions from big to small turns but retains race-level precision. There is a slalom sidecut in the tip but the remainder of the ski has a GS sidecut.

HIGH PERFORMANCE – SPEEDMACHINE
Speedmachine gets a new model, Mach 4 Power to add to this popular line of frontside performers. They feature a unique shape formed by ellipses which Nordica says gives maximum performance in carved turns.
Several of these models have the same dimensions but they differ in construction. All skis in this series use some form of the XBI CT binding system with its double spring toe release system.

ALL-MOUNTAIN – HOT ROD
All-mountain skis in this series feature a sidecut derived from round arcs. Sandwich construction and a round sidecut is best for stability and versatility in varied conditions according to Nordica. Note that many of the shapes are similar but mainly differ in construction that uses either carbon or titanium. In general Titanium adds strength and carbon makes a light, lively ski.

Carbon partial sidewall construction. Partial sidewall means there is a conventional sidewall in the binding area but cap construction for the remainder of the ski. That will deliver power and grip underfoot but a more forgiving tip and tail.

BACKCOUNTRY FREESTYLE
Nordica sees backcountry freestyle as an emerging discipline that is the evolution of park skiing migrating back into the mountains. That is what drove the design of The Zero so athletes can push freestyle to the limit in nature’s terrain park. The Zero is a different ski that is purely symmetrical in swing weight, flex and sidecut. In other words it doesn’t have a dedicated tip and tail, the ski is identical in both directions. It’s not a new model but it was totally re-worked for this season.
