Hot Rod is Nordica’s all-mountain category which means the skis attempt to marry gripping performance on groomed snow with enough float and good manners to handle soft snow too. That usually means compromises in design but the Helldiver CA did an admirable job of balancing two different demands.

Rather than the elliptical sidecut shape found on Speedmachine models, Hot Rod derives its shape from a round radius (part of a circle). It’s not visible and not easy to feel on the snow either but our test drive confirmed that it works. CA refers to carbon in the structure, TI is the only model higher on the ladder. It features Titanium.

Paul Cunnius

“A comfortable cruiser with a light feeling. It’s supple underfoot without giving up much performance in the process. Prefers moderate speeds, but this pair was the shortest on the rack. Longer skis would probably be even better at higher speeds.”

"Helldiver feels fairly big, and it is at 90 mm underfoot but it’s surprisingly agile. That’s where the 17-meter sidecut comes in to help arc these babies around. Helldiver comes in two versions, CA and TI. Helldiver CA felt good after two turns and it was easy to find the sweet spot. It’s soft, friendly and versatile and seemed to welcome the gnarliest conditions. CA was a blast in the trees and I think this version is well suited to most skiers."
