Salomon Bindings

Integrated systems have diminished the need for separate binding purchase but many Salomon skis are still available “flat” so customers can affix the binding of their choice. Flat skis are primarily in the freeride or park and pipe categories.

Last year a new “Z” performance series was introduced which continues this season. Some models incorporate a free flex rail and optimized power transmission for wide skis. Increasing the grip on the boot and widening the attachment points to the ski are all part of the recent attention to get more performance from a system by eliminating wobble between boot and snow.

The binding number usually indicates the maximum DIN setting.

The sport category is typified by the Z10 with its automatic toe wing adjustment and adult DIN settings between 3 and 10.

Z10 Ti W is a sport performance binding for women with automatic wing adjustment and a DIN scale of 3 – 10. Ti refers to Titanium or Titanal in the construction for extra strength.

Z14 Speed is a performance binding with maximum DIN setting of 14 and high performance features such as a free flex function and steel rail housing for strength and wear resistance.

Salomon’s most popular a la carte binding is the STH freeski line. They have a reputation for being bomb-proof thanks in part to the heavy duty toe and heel housings (all steel except STH 12 Oversize). STH 16 Steel is listed as a “pure steel race binding.” The full range goes from STH 12 Oversize for aggressive freestyle/freeride skiers up to the STH 16 Driver and STH 16 Steel. STH Steel is an expensive limited use binding, most users will want the STH 16 Driver version.
