TECNICA Boots

Race boots benefit from a tempered steel reinforcing element screwed to the sole of performance boots. Tecnica says it adds 20% more rigidity to the sole. Apparently 1°of sole torsion causes 1cm of knee movement and subsequent loss of transmission. Boots with this technology are labeled Power Chassis. In most stiff boots Tecnica has added over-injected soft plastic in the instep area to make it a little easier to get them on and off. That feature is called Quick Instep.

The Freeski segment features a cuff release mechanism for touring and a slick system of interchangeable soles to make alpine boots compatible with touring bindings. They call it an interchangeable footprint.

As an interesting side note, where some boot-makers resort to special materials such as Aluminium, Titanal, Carbon fiber and Titanium, Tecnica is using tempered steel in the Power Chassis and carbon steel for buckles and the reinforcing cuff plate on the spoiler. It also says that carbon steel makes the flattest, strongest buckle on the market.

For some reason Race boots are listed in UK shoe sizes, all others are Mondopoint. Incidentally, Mondopoint is the length of the foot in centimeters.
