Ski Brands - Gone But Not Forgotten
By Martin Olson

Some great ski brands have disappeared over the years but their names may still evoke fond memories of skiing. The following lists many of them but the list changes several times a year when old names are resuscitated. For example Hart was just removed in view of its revival.

Some were established quality brands or leaders in technology but failed to survive the harshest test of all — the market place. For example, Hexcel used a core of honeycomb aluminum like helicopter blades and Swallow was the ski for the man who skied Mt. Everest.

Stein Erikson promoted Northland skis, a company established in 1911 and at one time the largest producer of skis, toboggans, snowshoes and hockey sticks in the US.

Attenhofer had a dial that allowed one to change ski flex with the flick of a switch — about 40 years ago.

Clemont skis were also adjustable via a wooden spline on top of the ski. Ernie McCullough won the Sun Valley Harriman Cup on Clemont skis.
