Boot Out
By Martin Olson

With modern skis and groomed snow, “booting out” is something every carver will experience. It simply refers to the experience of losing edge grip because the boot touches the snow lifting the ski edge away from the snow.

Boot-out is most common on the inside ski because the boot sticks out further on the little toe side. The trick to avoiding boot-out on hard snow is to minimize weight on the inside ski. And thankfully, the evolution of skis to wider waists and riser plates under bindings all help to make boot-out less and less common.
