“They look like big old elf shoes,” exclaimed Anthony Boronowski of Armada Skis Inc.
The new JJ does look a bit weird and that was part of the aim, to look completely bizarre in the lift line. But the real difference is more than looks. Tip and tail curve upward in a slight rocker for more float in pow but the widest part of the ski is midway between binding and tip and tail. That leaves room for a bit of sidecut and camber under foot to make a ski that performs in powder but is skiable on groomed conditions.
The strange shape explains why ski dimensions are given as 5 numbers instead of a conventional 3. Armada says JJ is going to put the “freak” back in freeskiing.
By the way, JJ refers to Armada pros JP Auclair and Julien Regnier.
