Skiing Head Over Heels
By Martin Olson

Many skiers have difficulty staying in control on steep slopes because they are not out over the downhill ski enough. This makes a balanced turn initiation impossible which is embarrassing when everyone on the chair is watching.

To get a rough idea of what is needed, during the edging phase (speed control phase) your head should be approximately above your boots. Try that position while standing on a steep slope. It may feel a bit extreme at first but once mastered the reward is instant control on the pitch.

Saudan Couloir will be a piece of cake this season.
