It’s easy to say and easy to see, but not so easy to do; the demonstrator is turning his skis but somehow his body continues in the general downhill direction.
It’s one of the key goals of every skier advancing into all-mountain skiing but how can it be learned?
- Watch expert skiers, study images such as this one and mentally rehearse the kind of movements. There is evidence that mental rehearsal can influence learning of motor patterns.
- Focus on skiing with the feet. Notice that the pros do not use the upper body to swing the skis around. Modern skis turn by edging, not pivoting.
- Practice in gentle bumps first, turn on tops to make it a lot easier.
- Take a lesson with a good pro that can assign drills tailored for your stage of development.
