Movement = Snow Contact

By Martin Olson

In this sequence the demonstrator shows how much movement is needed to ski effectively at speed.

Bending in the third frame reduces pressure as the skis go from one edge to the other but within a fraction of a second strong extension is needed. The extension is not to lift the body but to reach out into the arc and apply pressure to the new edges.

It’s also worth noting that Misayo demonstrates another expert skill—bending and extending involves the whole body, not just the legs.
