How do good skiers look balanced and relaxed while harnessing the energy of modern skis? The secret to efficiency is in applying some basic principles of good technique. Note the key points in this efficient demonstration.
- Steer skis under the COM with lower body only. Notice that the upper body continues to move smoothly down the hill and maintains almost constant inclination.
- Transfer weight progressively so the skis make a clean transition from one edge to the other. No abrupt movements.
- The demonstrator is devoting as much attention to balancing as she is to steering. The perfectly centered position is achieved by bending in all joints and keeping the arms quiet but well away from the body.
