Peak Performance Ski Tip 6

Optical Illusion - by Martin Olson

In frame #3 Misayo’s skis are practically airborn as she goes from one set of edges to the other.

That light phase is a result of good edging in frame #1, not by hopping. In fact she is bending to control the rebound to maintain contact with the snow. Good skiers are light on their feet and the expertise is in controlling bending, not extending.

Practice this feeling with a bit of speed in small bumps and rolls; turn on the roll and control the up impulse by bending the legs.

Skier: Misayo Nakamura
Gear: Fischer, Peak Performance skiwear
Snow: Sunshine Village, Alberta
